NEW SAFETY MEASURES

Let's talk safety: it's part of our DNA and it’s always been the main element that drives all our decisions (well before the pandemic).

Today we’re applying rigorous health measures to continue to offer an experience that meets your expectations, in an environment that is as safe as before. Your trust matters and we cherish it.

Here are the measures we’re putting in place to limit the transmission risks of Covid-19 and to ensure the safety of all employees, skydivers, customers and guests who will visit our skydiving center this summer. Please note that you also have the responsibility to take your own precautions, for example, by washing your hands frequently, by avoiding touching your face, by respecting the two-meter physical distancing rule, etc.

GENERAL HEALTH MEASURES APPLICABLE TO EVERYONE WHO IS VISITING PARACHUTE OTTAWA

The following measures will be regularly reviewed and updated if need be.

  • The majority of our activities will now take place outside. We’ve also changed the way we operate to minimize contacts between different groups and with different employees.
  • An employee will be outside to welcome everyone that arrives at Parachute Ottawa. Each person’s temperature will be taken with a contactless thermometer. It will also be mandatory to complete a health questionnaire before accessing the site.
  • Several hand washing and disinfection stations will be installed inside and outside. Washing or disinfecting your hands will be mandatory before entering the building.
  • Surfaces that are often touched will be disinfected regularly and/or after each use (door handles, switches, bathrooms, pencils, payment terminals, computer mice and keyboards, belts and grab bars in planes, etc.).
  • Wearing a mask will be mandatory at all times indoors, including in the hangar. It will not be mandatory outside, unless the physical distance of two meters cannot be respected. Masks that can be tied behind the head and that are strong enough to stay in place during freefall can be purchased. Physical distancing will be encouraged even between people wearing masks.
  • A limited number of people will be admitted at the same time inside to register.
  • A strict 14-day quarantine policy will apply for staff members with flu symptoms, who have been in contact with someone infected by Covid-19 or who have traveled outside of Canada.
  • Plexiglas screens are installed at the reception to ensure the safety of our employees and customers.
  • Hugs and high fives with the instructors or between jumpers are not allowed to limit physical contacts.

SPECIFIC HEALTH MEASURES APPLICABLE TO TANDEM CUSTOMERS

The following measures will be regularly reviewed and updated if need be.

  • We reduced the daily number of reservations that we accept by around 50% and each customer doing a tandem jump is allowed to bring a maximum of two guests, to limit the number of people on site.
  • Most stages of the tandem jump will be completed outside.
  • In addition to being mandatory at all times indoors (including in the hangar), wearing a mask will be mandatory outside from the gearing-up stage until all the equipment has been removed after the jump. This applies to tandem passengers and instructors, who will also be required to wear a full-face helmet.
  • Exceptionally, jumpsuits will not be provided for tandem passengers. Therefore, customers will have to dress appropriately for the activity, i.e. comfortable and tight sports clothes that are adapted to the weather. Please note that clothing can be soiled during landing.
  • Instructors must wash or disinfect their hands before and after gearing up the passenger as well as before and after removing the harness.
  • Freefall goggles will be disinfected between each customer.

SPECIFIC HEALTH MEASURES APPLICABLE TO LICENSED SKYDIVERS

Skydiving safety measures should never be sacrificed for Covid-19 health measures. Jumpers are required to check their equipment, to review emergency procedures and to seek assistance from an instructor or from the director of operations if they don’t feel safe or confortable in any given situation.

The following measures will be regularly reviewed and updated if need be.

  • From our opening until further notice, only skydivers with at least a B licence AND who have done a minimum of 10 jumps during the 2019 season will be admitted, in order to limit the number of people on site.
  • All jumpers must have a mask that is strong enough to stay in place during freefall, wear it inside at all times and outside when the two-meter distance rule cannot be respected (boarding area, altitude climb in the plane, exit from the plane, freefall, etc.).
  • The manifest will be accessible via a window outside to avoid going in the building.
  • Accompanying persons will not be allowed for regular jumpers, to limit the number of people on site.
  • Jumpers who have their own equipment must commit to making a minimum of three jumps, with exceptions, and jumpers who do not have their equipment must commit to making a minimum of two jumps, with exceptions. Examples of exceptions: weather, winds, etc.
  • Jumpers who pack their own parachute will have to do it outside and will be required to respect a physical distance of two meters between each other. Parachute Ottawa packers will remain available. They will also be required to respect the two-meter physical distancing rule.
  • The interior of the building (including the hangar) will be a transitional zone accessible only to go to the bathroom, to pick-up your rental gear and to drop-off/pick-up your parachute if it’s being packed by one of our employees. So we recommend bringing everything you’ll need to be comfortable outside (ex. a tarp and a heavy object to fix your harness to the ground when packing, a tent or a parasol for shade, a cooler for your food and drinks, folding chairs, etc.). You will need to keep your equipment and all your things outside.
  • Dirt dive practices must be performed without contact and with a distance of two meters between each skydiver.

We can't wait to see you in the sky again!

The Parachute Ottawa team

First jump

How to begin

The big day has finally arrived. You are becoming more and more excited! Maybe you’re nervous? We know exactly what you are going through, don't worry! Skydiving has been our passion and profession for almost 30 years and our entire team has more than 185 000 jumps of experience. Remember, you are on the verge of a unique experience that will change your life.

You can choose one of 2 different options for your first tandem skydive at Parachute Ottawa:

Jump at 9000' - This option will allow you to experience a 9000' tandem skydive. At 5000', after only 20 seconds of free fall, your instructor will deploy the parachute and you will be able to enjoy the experience of flying under the canopy. Buy now!

Jump at 13 500' - Our most popular option for a first skydive, that will allow you to get the full experience of a 60-second free fall. You will jump from 13 500' attached to your instructor. At 5000', your instructor will deploy the parachute and you will enjoy the flight under your canopy with amazing views. Buy now!

Jump at 18 000' - The most extreme skydive experience. You will fly up to a height of 18 000’ with the help of oxygen in the plane. You will experience the thrill of the longest freefall: 1 minute and 20 seconds. Buy now!

You are getting ready to enjoy a unique and intense experience that will last around 3 hours and that you will definitely remember for the rest of your life. From the briefing to the landing, here is how the activity will unfold:

  1. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled reservation.
  2. You will receive a 15 to 20-minute training before your jump.
  3. Accompanied by your instructor, you will board the airplane wearing a jump suit and a special harness.
  4. Once you have reached the exit altitude, you will prepare to jump from the airplane, securely attached to your instructor.
  5. Once the parachute is deployed, you will enjoy amazing views and a smooth descent under canopy (but, if you ask your instructor, he’ll gladly spin you around for more thrill!).
  6. You will land near the spectator area, so family and friends can easily watch your landing.
  7. The full activity will take approximately 3 hours, but we invite you to stay with us after, enjoy your day, meet the team and watch other skydiving that is going on.

Please note that for safety reasons, dogs are not allowed on the drop zone and alcohol is forbidden.

2020 operations schedule

It's possible to do your first tandem jump every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our last day of operation for tandems this season is August 30, 2020. When we are operating, you can show up at our skydiving center to jump, but we strongly advise you to contacting us to make a reservation, as available spots go quickly.

Training

Become a skydiver

Parachute Ottawa will be offering PFF (Progressive Freefall) training during the 2020 season. But, we do things differently.

The way we run our PFF program is similar to a skydiving camp. We book many students during the same period, on specific dates that are determined in advance. Intensive training like that has proven to increase the success rates of our students. It also gives them a greater sense of accomplishment and enables them to meet skydivers who are at the same level so that they can eventually progress together. And it’s just a lot of fun!

If you dream of becoming a skydiver, please contact us. We will take your information and give you more details about our training camps and available dates.

Please note that our sister drop zones Parachute Montreal, in Farnham, QC, and in Saint-Esprit, QC, have a lot of availability to give skydiving training courses during the summer. This can also be an option for you.

Check out this chart and click on the circles to learn more about the progression of a skydiver.

Military training expertise

Parachute Ottawa is Ontario’s newest military training location affiliated with Parachute Montreal and Mobility Lab, who have both worked in collaboration for several years with the Canadian Armed Forces to provide parachute training to various military groups. Our military experience solidifies our overall skydiving and training expertise, making us an industry leader in Canada.

Strategically located in eastern Ontario, Parachute Ottawa is quickly accessible to various Canadian Forces Bases, such as CFB Trenton, CFB Kingston and CFB Petawawa. Our private facility meet the needs of military groups because of its location, but also because of unique assets, such as our C-130 Hercules capable runways and private access to water.

Parachute Ottawa is also strategically associated with Parachute Montreal. Our Saint-Esprit drop zone in Quebec is located less than 30 minutes away from the indoor skydiving facility SkyVenture Montreal, which is ideal to combine training at the wind tunnel and the drop zone. Therefore, our military groups can easily skydive and train at the wind tunnel, all within the same day.

Highly specialized personnel

Each year, our team of instructors, coaches and riggers put their knowledge to work in order to exceed the standards established by the Canadian government.

Our instructors are responsible for the programs that require military expertise in several areas. Some of them have had a military career while others have acquired ground experience in the last few years.

  • Our instructors, coaches and riggers are accredited by the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association (CSPA).
  • We have extensive expertise with military equipment.

Military training

Our military training programs are designed and developed in cooperation with different units of the Canadian Army in order to meet the particular needs of each group. Our programs include:

  • Up-to-date information.
  • Consolidation of skills using the wind tunnel.
  • Freefall techniques (including BOC conversion).
  • Canopy control.
  • Tactical flying training.
  • Freefall training, day and night.
  • Canopy control, solo or group tactical approach, night jump.
  • Wind tunnel training, including advanced stabilisation techniques.

Skydive jump

F.A.Q.

I read on your website that your team trains the Canadian military. Can I still do a tandem at your skydiving center?

Yes, of course! Out team has been professionally operating skydiving centres for civilians for nearly 30 years, so we definitely know what we are doing when it comes to first jumps. Our expertise with the Canadian Armed Forces solidifies our overall skydiving and training expertise, making us an industry leader in Canada.

What are your business hours?

It will be possible to do your first tandem jump every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from July 17, 2020 (with a few dates excluded, please refer to our current operations calendar before making a reservation).

Are gift certificates transferable?

Yes. Gift certificates are transferable. Only the recipient of the gift certificate (the person you offer it to) can apply for a change of name. Transfer fees of $35 (plus taxes) apply for any transfer.

The recipient must fill out the form below to complete the transfer. The gift certificate transfer will only be accepted if the form was sent at [email protected] and if the applicable fee was paid prior to the date of the jump.

What is the minimum age to skydive?

The minimum age to do a tandem skydive and to take the PFF training is 16. A parental consent form must be signed by a parent for anyone under the age of majority (18) before being allowed to jump. Click below to download our parental consent form.

Should I make a reservation?

We strongly recommend making a reservation. Don’t wait too long, spots go quickly! We're open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can book over the phone (1-877-OTT-JUMP) or online.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes, we have gift certificates available! You can purchase a gift certificate for a jump or for any dollar amount that you would like. To order a gift certificate, please contact us at [email protected] or call us at 1 (877) 727-2685.

Please note that all sales are final and gift certificates are not refundable.

Are gift certificates refundable and do they have an expiration date?

Gift certificates are not refundable and there is no expiration date on them. They keep their monetary value. However, any increase in the rates will result in a charge for the price difference on the gift certificate at the time of the jump.

Can I cancel my reservation?

Yes. If you cancel with 48 hours of advanced notice, you will not incur any charges. If you cancel within 48 hours of your reservation date, your deposit of $50 per person will not be refunded.

What if I have a fear of heights?

Many skydivers have a fear of heights but still skydive. You will not have the feeling of height during your jump, neither in the airplane nor in freefall. Because you are jumping from 13,500 or 18,000 feet, you will have no physical references to how high up you are; therefore, you will not experience any sensation of height.

Do I have to pay the full amount when I make a reservation?

No, you pay the full amount only on the day of your jump. However, you will be asked to put down a deposit of $50 per person when you make the reservation.

What happens if there is bad weather?

Jumping is restricted if the sky is too cloudy or if the winds are too strong. It is rather unusual to cancel an entire day of skydiving. However, if this should happen, we will move your reservation without charge to any date and time that is convenient for you. If the weather looks uncertain on the day of your jump, we invite you to phone us before you travel out to the drop zone.

Is there a maximum weight?

The maximum weight is 250 pounds (115 kilos). For anyone exceeding 235 pounds (107 kilos), an additional $35 fee will be charged.

How should I dress?

Dress comfortably, and according to the day’s weather. Sport clothes and running shoes are appropriate. You will be provided with a jump suit to go over your clothes. Do not wear sandals or flip-flops! Remember, it is colder in altitude than on the ground. The temperature will be between 0 and 10 degree Celsius.
